Bundaberg South State School Visit

Thanks to Sue Walsh and Patrick Hollamby, Speech-Language Pathologists from the North Coast Region of the Department of Education, for inviting me to be a part of their fluency program for adolescents who stutter in Bundaberg QLD this week.  Speech Pathology Students from the University of Queensland (10) and Australian Catholic University (1) joined the 6 Speech-Language Pathologists to run this program.  I showed the film When I Stutter directed by John Gomez, shared some personal insights into building confidence and spoke to each of the students.

Just wait, mate

Face masks might make it difficult for a listener to know what is happening during a moment of stuttering. This image is available to download to your mobile phone and share when speaking with others.

Mt Alford 2020

QLD Speak Easy has, for about 13 years now, run a 3 day retreat at Mt Alford Lodge on the QLD Scenic Rim in the south east of the state. You can be assured of Fun, Fellowship and Fluency and a chance to get your smooth speech technique back on track.

The retreat has been a great opportunity for Speak Easy members to fine tune their skills in a relaxed atmosphere at a fully catered venue. Only 12 allowed this year, but hopeful for more in 2021.

We already have some converts from Melbourne who normally attend, and they are expected back next year.

If interested for 2021, ring Kev Nuttall 0419774141.

The Roundtable: For the 70 million who stutter

Thanks to host Julian Morrow with ABC Radio National for the roundtable discussion about stuttering. Joining Associate Professor Robyn Lowe, Australian Stuttering Research Centre, UTS and John Hendrickson, Journalist with The Atlantic in the USA, we had a great conversation sharing our combined knowledge and lived experiences of how stuttering can impact someone’s life.

You can listen to the interview using the link below.
